#PubWorkers4Justice

On June 8, 2020, workers in publishing and media committed to a day of action in solidarity with the recent uprisings across the United States in response to the long history of Black people murdered by the state. As we publishing workers attempt to rise to the demands of the present moment by working towards dismantling white supremacy and extricating ourselves from this industry's complicity, we acknowledge how our efforts remain deeply tied to this nation’s history of slavery.

The June 8th action has shown how powerful we can be when we come together and act as a collective. If we hope to further incite widespread change, we must continue to come together outside of our workplace, dedicate ourselves to political education, develop support systems to counterbalance the industry's exploitation, create programs that respond to the concerns of our colleagues across the industry, and create space for BIPOC workers to lead our efforts.

Now that we have mobilized as a group, we must press forward to sustain the momentum we have harnessed. We are working to develop a wider, more representative base of organizers and to use the collective power we have created to make real change in our industry and beyond.

We can put pressure on publishers to stop publishing racist books.

We can make our industry safer and more welcoming for marginalized people.

We can stand together against the systems of white supremacy and racial capitalism.

We will continue protesting, donating, supporting, and learning.
